PLEX4GOOD to support the people in Ukraine. As nice as that sounds and as much as I wish for peace to reign there soon, I am still convinced: Such an action would be bad for CCP and bad for EVE Online…
When I woke up on Thursday at just after 4 o’clock, I didn’t know why at first. Then my phone buzzed again several times in a row and I realised that it was the smartphone or the Discord app that had pulled me out of the warm land of dreams into a reality that even now, a week later, seems unreal and almost like a bad dream itself.
In the following days, the media are full of reports, pictures and sound bites from Ukraine. The war is raging on many levels and that makes things even more emotional, even more intense. We are there live and depending on which media you follow, you can take sides. Neutral watching is almost impossible.
Throughout the week there were voices calling for a PLEX4Good action to support the people in Ukraine. Personally, I don’t think that’s a good idea. Where were the calls for PLEX4GOOD when the war in Iraq started, when Rohingya were expelled, when villages in Yemen and Eritrea were bombed (again)?
I do not want to relativise and I definitely lack the expertise to assess things properly. I am definitely not a friend of this war of aggression and consider it a terrible crime that not only goes against my innermost principles, but will also be etched in the common memory of these two countries and the whole of Europe and will smoulder there for a long time.
Nevertheless, if there should be a PLEX4GOOD for this case, why did it not exist for other cases in recent years?
No, PLEX4GOOD must continue to be reserved for those in need due to natural disasters. Political statements should not be covered by the programme, even though it may be difficult to bear.
By the way, I don’t think that sanctions in the gaming sector are effective either. Playing together is what connects us. We have Ukrainian and Russian players in our ranks. We cannot exclude these people. They bear no responsibility for the decisions of their presidents. Maybe they are the victims themselves, they don’t know any better because they trust the reports on both sides.
Many thoughts on this subject and some of them are definitely not finished.
What moves you these days? I look forward to your comments.
