Once a month there is a common topic that the (german) EVE Online bloggers write about. This month it’s about the question in which genre we could imagine EVE if it wasn’t an MMORPG. I like to play a special kind of games and I think exactly that could work very well for EVE….
A few years ago I was turned into Telltale’s games by a friend. This was followed by Life is Strange and a few other titles that had a very strong focus on story telling. The choices you made in the various dialogs were more or less important to the progression.
I could imagine the same for EVE Online. Even earlier there was the “butterfly effect” trailer and it is always emphasized that the decisions we make in New Eden have an impact on the (immersive) game world.
The “story rich” games are actually not open world games but rather strictly scripted – even if there are often different endings.
The big chance I see in this form of storytelling are the many storylines in EVE that have not been told to the end yet. Also the countless different settings invite a space soap opera, or a thriller sci-fi story, or any other topic I’ve written a short story about myself, which you can even listen to.

What genre of game would you move to New Eden? Jump&Run?
