So soon(tm) we will have Eve Online, Valkyrie, Gunjack and the as yet untitled FPS to replace DUST 514/Project Legion. Are we missing anything else? Are then any other games CCP should be looking into? Colony building simulators in the style of Sim City or Rimworld. Should it be on a grander scale link Civilisation or Stronghold Kingdoms. How about RTS games ala Command and Conquer? Survival games such as Dust? Planet based combat like World of Tanks? Would you like to see other game types expanding the Eve Universe or should CCP stick to what it knows?CCP games is one of the most innovative producers of video games in the world. Titles like Valkyrie, Gunjack and the platform connecting DUST 514 – Projekt where outstanding examples how thinking ahead can improve the development of new technologies and new ways to play. Following the idea to create a new game in the rich universe of New Eden is also the idea of including some new innovative technology or include already existing technologies. In the past CCP developed most of their new technology with research partners like Sony for DUST 514. To be honest, every type of game, from FPS to RTS and even simple puzzle games can easily be created by a small team of developers withing a few week. That’s not a big task. Think bigger!
The big task is about getting this brand new game connected with a hype or something which makes it spectacular and giving it a stand-alone factor in a world, where daily hundreds of video games compete with each other. CCP isn’t much about a copy&paste attitude. They always create something new, and I’m sure they will do so, when they start thinking augmented and mobile. Let’s dream a bit about the future. For years now, the niche of mobile gaming became more and more important and some gaming franchises were later ported into an Android or iOS Version. But there hasn’t been any great attempts by CCP to cover that niche. So, what about a small EVE Online based game, that I can carry around with me. That I can play in the bus and literally everywhere where I go? A New Eden for my pocket? The type of game isn’t that much important – of course it should be innovative – but, in my opinion, it’s more important that CCP takes a closer look to mobile devices or specially to “new” devices that will be released within the next year like Microsofts “Hololens” or the Google “Glass”.Augmented Reality and Gamification
